Positioned between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, the historic former Sunbury Asylum has been thoughtfully redeveloped into a thriving creative community precinct. Today, the site is home to a gallery, theatre, artist studios, and collaborative workspaces, breathing new life into a building with a complex past.

Commissioned by Hume City Council, the transformation into a vibrant Arts & Cultural Precinct was made possible through the exceptional design work of Architecture Associates and Openwork, working in close collaboration with heritage consultants and community advisors.

Artrise Gallery

Our reseller bluebottle, assisted the design team with the supply of a tailored gallery lighting solution within the historic Female Refractory Ward Building, now known as the Artrise Gallery. This large gallery area consists of a significant corner room, and preserved cells transformed into small gallery 'nooks'. The mission is for these spaces to exhibit the diverse art of the local creative community, open to all to enjoy.

The Lighting Specification

Swedish-manufactured Ljusdesign Arty Framer and Arty Zoom spotlights were selected for the track lighting throughout these spaces. Both fixtures offer the versatility demanded by a dynamic, ever-changing exhibition environment, and come equipped with a built-in dimmer, Casambi Bluetooth control, and premium-quality light output, ensuring every artwork is presented at its best.

A Transformative Project for the Hume Community

Congratulations to all collaborators involved in such a meaningful and far-reaching community project. The Sunbury Arts & Cultural Precinct represents a genuine step toward a more connected, open, and culturally rich future for the Hume region. For more information about our reseller network, Ljusdesign products, or this project, get in touch at info@sld.net.au
