'Conflict in the Middle East from 1990', Australian War Memorial - Canberra, ACT

SLD is proud to have supplied the Ljusdesign, Xicato and CAN lighting systems through our trusted resellers bluebottle and Designcase for the Australian War Memorial’s new permanent gallery, ‘Conflict in the Middle East from 1990' formerly know as 'Iraq Wars'.

Situated within the grand Anzac Hall on Level 1, the ‘Conflict in the Middle East from 1990' gallery displays more than 500 objects from Australia's involvement in the first Gulf War, Iraq War and the fight against ISIS in Northern Iraq and Syria. In addition to featuring an F/A-18A Hornet that served in Iraq and Syria. The collection brings to life the real stories and lived experiences of those who served, connecting visitors directly to the moments and places where history unfolded.

The Lighting Solution

The gallery required a lighting solution capable of delivering exceptional precision, quality and consistency across a diverse and densely curated collection.

Within the showcases, the Ljusdesign Gizmo system, specifically the Glass Mount Display models provide high-performance illumination for individual objects. Each luminaire delivers outstanding colour rendering and consistency, ensuring every artefact is presented at its best. We supplied this system through our reseller, Designcase.

Within the joinery and extrusion, our team also assisted with the supply of Xicato XFL Tuneable White Tape, a premium high density tape with 240 LEDs/m and superior construction for higher reliability and heat management.

Overhead, the Ljusdesign Arty Framer and Neo Framer Narrow and Wide Track luminaires illuminate the broader gallery environment with long-range intensity and precise beam shaping where required. All overhead luminaires are controlled via Casambi, offering premium colour rendering.

Complementing the Ljusdesign system, the Australian-made CAN RGBW Casambi Track Spotlights wash large areas of the objects and space with an array of select colours. We supplied this system through our reseller, bluebottle.

Together, the two systems form a cohesive, high-quality pairing which form part of the expert lighting design by Benjamin Cisterne, who’s careful and considered approach has been central to the gallery’s success. We are proud to have supported Benjamin and the broader project team.
