South Lake Dolphins Swimming Club has several different squads available to its current and potential members. All new swimmers will be assessed on their ability by one of the Club's coaching staff before being placed in a squad. Depending on the ability of the swimmer and if the Head Coach believes that a particular squad is not suitable anymore, he may decide to move the swimmer up or down to another squad. Each new swimmer will receive three FREE trial sessions to decide whether or not squad swimming is what they want. There are twelve squads available at South Lake Dolphins Swimming Club. They are Orange Junior Dolphins, Bronze Junior Dolphins, Silver Junior Dolphins, Gold Junior Dolphins, Junior Development, Junior State B, Junior State A, Fitness Squad, State Development, National Age, National Youth and National Open. Orange Junior DolphinsThis is a non competitve squad designed as a transition from swim school into swim club. Swimmers to enter this squad must be able to swim 10m basic freestyle with breathing, basics of breasstroke kick and 10m of basic backstroke. Recommended 1-2 sessions per week. Squad Coaches: Jackson Norton and Jason Vowles Assistant Coach: Stacey Training Sessions: Monday - Swim 4.00-4.30pm (Southlakes) Wednesday - Swim 4.00-4.30pm (Southlakes) Saturday - Swim 10.00-10.30 (Southlakes) Bronze Junior DolphinsAnother non competitive squad designed to continue transition from swim school to swim club. Swimmers in this squad need to demonstrate legal breatstroke kick as well as basics of timing, show control in backstroke over 15m, demonstrate correct breathing technique in freestyle, showing correct hand entry and catch and able to demnstrate basic rhythm of butterfly. In this squad swimmers will start with basics of diving and some turns. Recommended 2 sessions per week. Squad Coaches: David Miller and Jackson Norton Assistant Coach: Stacey Training Sessions: Monday - Swim 4.00-4.30pm (Southlakes) Wednesday - Swim 4.00-4.30pm (Southlakes) Saturday - Swim 10.00-10.30 (Southlakes) Silver Junior Dolphins This is the first level squad able to compete at competitions. Swimmers need to be able to demonstrate 15m correct timing with glide in breaststroke with high body position. Show control in backstroke for 25m with confident finishes into the wall. Correct breathing for 50m and timing for 25m in freestyle. In butterfly clear arms forward together for 12m attempt to show correct brathing. Can confidently dive off edge an/or block. Can perform basics of tumble turns, demonstrating correct streamline for 5m. Can perform correct finishes in all strokes. Recommended 2-3 sessions per week. Backstroke can show control over 50m with basics of turn. Can swim 100m of freestyle comfortably at training and club nights, holding good technique over 50m and control in and out of turns. Butterfly can swim 25m straight holding good technique with effort in timing. Can perform basic dive off the block pushing out, and can show some knowledge in reading the clock. Can perform comfortable hold repeats of 8 x 50 freestyle maintaining technique. The recommended pool sessions are 3 per week for this squad. Junior Development SquadThis Squad is for swimmers that can demonstrate good technique for 50m breaststroke, can confidently perform split stroke and turn. Can show control for more than 50m of Backstroke and perform turn with control. Can maintain decent technique for 100m of Freestyle with repeats with good control on turns with strong breakouts. Demonstrate good technique for Butterfly for 25m and can swim 50m with legal stroke and kick. Good push off the block in dives, can read more conmplex times on the clock. Demonstrate IM turns. Junior State B This squad is for swimmers who can maintain 100m repeats, holding good technique over all strokes. Can perform strong dives and turns for all strokes. Has good knowledge of set times on pace clock. Must be doing 4-5 sessions per week.
